Origin story
Marisol Trevino cooked in other people's kitchens for eighteen years and bought this room in 2009 with her sister. The back room was a storeroom until a neighbor asked, in 2011, whether forty people could eat there after her husband's funeral.
Why families choose us
Most of the families who eat here after a funeral have eaten here before — for baptisms, for a quinceañera, for a Tuesday. That is the whole idea. The back room seats sixty and closes off with a door, so a family can cry in it without an audience and laugh in it twenty minutes later. For a luncheon we set a fixed menu on the day and serve it family style: rice, beans, two meats, tortillas kept coming, agua fresca on the table. We do not charge a room fee for a funeral luncheon, only for the food. Give us two hours' notice if you can, and less than that if you cannot — we have opened the back room within the hour more than once.

Not for a funeral luncheon. You pay for the food and nothing else, and the price per person is the same whether you are twenty or sixty.
Can people come and go?
Yes. The back room has its own door from the parking lot, so people arriving late from the cemetery are not walking past every table.
