About this venue
Origin story
The building was empty for nineteen years. A block club bought it at a scavenger sale in 2011, and Denise Ruffin — who had been running the block club's fish fries in a school gym — spent five years raising the money to make it usable. It opened for its first repast in 2017.
Why families choose us
Marble, brass and a ceiling thirty feet up. The banking hall was built in 1924 for a bank that served this neighborhood when no other bank would, and it has been a hall for the neighborhood ever since the bank left. Repasts are the bulk of what we host, so the building is set up for them: a catering kitchen with two ovens and a walk-in, tables and chairs for two hundred already in the building, and a sound system with a wireless microphone that people can actually hear over a full room. We keep a list of caterers who know the kitchen, and you are free to ignore it. Families from the church across the street pay a lower rate, and so does anybody holding a repast on a weekday.

Is there a lower rate for a weekday repast?
There is, and it is on the price list rather than something you have to ask for. Families from the church across the street pay that rate any day.
Can our caterer use the kitchen?
Yes. Two ovens, a walk-in and a warming line. We keep a list of caterers who know the room, and you are free to bring your own.
How many can sit down to eat?
Two hundred at round tables, which are here already. Above that we set the hall for standing and put the food on the long wall.
Do you have a lift?
The hall and the restrooms are all on one level, and the entrance from the parking lot is step-free. The vault room is on that level too.
