Origin story
Tovah Bernstein cooked for her own shul's bereavement committee for twenty-two years, unpaid, before her daughter pointed out that she was running a catering business without charging for it. They licensed the kitchen on Devon in 2018.
Why families choose us
Shiva is most of our week. A family sitting shiva should not be answering a doorbell every ninety minutes, so we deliver on a schedule you set at the start, we bring what a house of mourning actually needs — eggs, bagels, herring, fruit, cake, coffee that keeps coming — and we set it out, clear the last delivery away and leave. The kitchen is under kosher supervision and we work dairy and meat on separate days. We also cater the meal of consolation after a burial and the gathering at the end of shloshim, and we will take a family's own recipe and cook it if somebody wants their grandmother's kugel on the table rather than ours. Vegetarian, nut-free and gluten-free trays are priced the same as everything else.

Common questions
Can you deliver through the whole week of shiva?
Yes, on a schedule you set on the first day. We set out each delivery, take the last one away and do not ring the bell twice.
Is the kitchen under supervision?
It is, and we work dairy and meat on separate days. The certificate is on the wall and we will send you a photograph of it if that helps.
Can you cook our own family recipe?
Bring it, however it is written. We cook it by the tray and price it the same as anything else on the list.
